ScamFreeZone.com study reveals 97 percent of consumers
are concerned websites will misuse their information!
Respondents are worried their credit card details and email
addresses with be abused.
Dundee, Scotland--Internet consumer advocate
ScamFreeZone.com has released a new study showing
consumers are deeply concerned their information may be
misused by websites.
In a survey of 2,030 Internet shoppers, 82 percent said they
were very concerned about possible misuse of their credit
card details and email address. Only 15 percent expressed
slight concern with just three percent saying they are
unconcerned about ecommerce security.
These new figures counter e-commerce industry claims that
enough is being done to soothe consumer fears.
In light of the study, ScamFreeZone.com recommends more
be done to ensure both shoppers and entrepreneurs can do
business with complete confidence.
ScamFreeZone.com investigates tools and opportunities for
small Internet businesses. "We offer advice, tools and real
home business opportunities," says Neil Shearing who founded
the project for entrepreneurs seeking work at home, home jobs,
or an Internet-based home business.
Shearing believes the Net must strive to earn consumer trust.
"Online, where customers can't judge you by your face or
location, honesty is everything."
The ScamFreeZone.com study follows on the heels of
recent reports of consumers giving e-businesses poor
marks for customer service and reliability.
Marketing experts are also noting consumers are becoming
weary of "permission marketing" campaigns that ask for
an email address, then flood the consumer's mailbox with
offers.
Since late 1997 ScamFreeZone.com has been compiling a
directory of Scamfreezone Member Sites organised into
over 100 categories. These sites offer business opportunities
which have been certified, by the owner, as scam free.
"If we receive any negative comments about our member sites,
we investigate the situation and remove the site if warranted,"
Shearing said. ScamFreeZone sees this process as an
improvement over the "all business opportunities on the Internet
are scams" attitude.
